A Prayer for Families

Father, may the families of our military personnel—their spouses, children, and parents—cast all their cares and burdens upon You. Instead of being worried or filled with anxiety, may they pray about everything that concerns them and everything that concerns their soldiers’ life and deployment. As You promised, then cause Your peace, which surpasses all understanding, to guard their hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. Grant all our military troops this same peace, and let them feel the love we have for them even though we are far apart.

A Prayer for December, 2007

Lord, I pray that you will be our servicemen and women’s refuge and strength, a very present help in any trouble or challenge, and therefore, they will not fear. Jesus, you said, “Be of good cheer! It is I; do not be afraid.” May our troops seek You, know You, and recognize that You are in their very midst. Thank You that we can be confident that You are able to keep what we have committed to You until that Day.

(Ps. 46:1-2, Jer. 29: 12-13, Matt. 18:19-20. 2 Tim. 1:12)

A Prayer for our Troops

Your goodness is so great!
You have stored up great blessings
 for those who honor you.
You have done so much for those who come to You for protection, blessing them before the watching world.
You hide them in the shelter of Your presence, safe from those who conspire against them. …
So be strong and take courage, all you who put your hope in the Lord.
—Psalm 31:19-20, 24

Father, truly Your goodness is so great and You have done so much for those who come to You for protection and You bless them before the watching world. We ask You today to hide our troops in the shelter of Your presence, safe from those who conspire against them. May our military men and women and their families be strong and take courage as they put their hope in you, Lord. In Christ’s name, amen.

A Prayer for Mercy

Have mercy on our troops, have mercy!
We look to you to protect them.
Hide them beneath the shadow of your wings
Until this violent war is past...
Fulfill your purpose for every serviceman and woman,
Send help from heaven to save them,
Send forth to them your unfailing love and faithfulness
Be exalted, O God, above the heavens!
May your glory shine over all the earth...
in the Middle East and throughout America,
May our hearts be confident and steadfast in you, O God;
So we can sing your praises.

—from Psalm 57:1-3, 5, 7, NLT

A Prayer for Children of Soldiers

Father of the fatherless, Lord of all, we come to You today asking that you protect the children and teenagers of our deployed troops, those who are sacrificing so much to protect our nation. Please undergird their families and the parents who are on the home front caring for them. Provide for all the needs of these children and parents and provide the support the kids need in their schools and communities. Fill the gaps in their little lives because of the absence of a parent or parents in Your amazing ways. Would you mobilize people to be more aware of and better reach out to military families. Increase the prayer support around them and for them! And bring their dads and moms home safely, Lord.

A Prayer for Marriages

Lord, You desire for our marriages to last a lifetime but they are stressed and strained by deployments and geographical distance. Protect and preserve our marriages and the marriages and families of every serviceman and woman. Don’t let the problems, the enemy, or difficulties separate what You have joined together. Strengthen commitments and give grace to persevere. May we always come to Your throne of grace for the mercy and help we need as husbands, wives, mothers, and fathers. In Christ’s name, amen.
